Automobile Insurance

Whether you're trying to insure your autos, motorcycles, snowmobiles, motor homes, or antique cars, we'll take the time to explain what's covered and your options. Saving you money on premiums is always an important goal, but more importantly we try to balance the cost of insurance with getting you the proper protection. The protection available in most personal auto policies includes:

Liability - covers damages to a third party, up to the policy limit of liability, resulting from an accident for which the insured, any family member, or any person using the covered vehicle with the insured's permission becomes legally liable. Liability coverage includes:

  • Bodily Injury - Covers bodily harm, including death.  Bodily injury includes medical payments, lost wages, and out-of-pocket expenses as well as consideration for pain and suffering, loss of consortion (husband, wife, partner), etc.
  • Property Damage - Covers physical injury to, destruction of, or loss of use of tangible property.
  • Defense Costs - Covers the cost the insurance company incurs for legal expenses to defend claims to the insured's policy

Collision - covers damages to the insured vehicle resulting from the overturn or upset of the vehicle, or its impact with another vehicle or object.

Comprehensive - covers damages to the insured vehicle resulting from losses other than collision. Losses covered usually include those from fire; theft; contact with a bird or animal; hail, water, or flood; glass breakage; malicious mischief or vandalism; and other causes of loss specified in the policy.

  • Collision and comprehensive coverage usually include a deductible, which is a preset amount of money (often ranging from $250-$1000) that the insured agrees to pay towards the repair of their vehicle in the event of an accident.  Higher deductibles can lower premiums, but the savings should always be balanced against the amount that would have to be paid out of the insured's pocket after an accident.

Medical Payments - covers reasonable expenses up to the policy limit incurred for necessary medical and funeral services because of bodily injury caused by an accident and sustained by the insured.  The insured is defined as the insured, any family member, or any person occupying the insured vehicle; or the insured or family member hit by a vehicle while a pedestrian.

Uninsured/underinsured motorist - Uninsured motorist covers damages which the insured is legally entitled to recover from the owner or operator of an uninsured vehicle because of bodily injury sustained in an auto accident.

Underinsured motorist similarly covers the insured when involved in an accident with a driver who has insufficient insurance to covers damages which the insured is legally entitled to recover bodily injury sustained in an auto accident.

Towing - covers costs, up to the limit shown in the policy, for towing and labor costs incurred when a vehicle is disabled.  Any labor, however, must be performed at the place of disablement.

Rental Reimbursement - covers costs, up to the limit shown in the policy, for vehicle rental expenses incurred due to losses other than collision.

We also offer Umbrella Coverage which provides liability coverage over and above the underlying limits available under basic policies.
