Homeowners Insurance

Protecting where you live, whether it's your home, condo or apartment, or whether it's new construction or a vintage home, requires a conscious effort to make sure all exposures are covered.  Providing advice and information to avoid insurance and liability problems is part of our job.

Homeowner's insurance provides property coverage including loss of use as well as theft insurance and personal liability coverage.  The protection available in Homeowner's policies include:

  • Property insurance - covers the dwelling and other structures attached to the dwelling(referred to as Coverage A), other structures on the insured premises such as detached garages, sheds etc. (Coverage B), and personal property of the insured anywhere in the world (Coverage C) up to the limits of insurance listed on the policy.

  • Loss of Use (Coverage D) - pays the additional cost related to living elsewhere if a covered cause of loss renders the insured's premises "unfit to live in".

  • Personal Liability Insurance (Coverage E) - covers all sums to a third party, as covered by the homeowner's policy up to the policy limit of liability, that the insured becomes legally obligated to pay as damages because of bodily injury or property damage.

  • Medical Payments to Others (Coverage F) - pays third parties for their medical bills, up to the policy limit of liability, regardless of the fault or liability of the insured.

  • Policies available for renters and condo owners do not provide coverage to the dwelling but do provide coverage of the insured's contents/personal property as well as providing liability coverage.

Additional coverage options may also be purchased and can include:
  • Replacement cost guarantees - pays the cost to replace a damaged or destroyed item with one of like kind and quality at the time of loss.

  • Scheduled Personal Property - a schedule or list of individual articles valued at a specified amount of insurance. These usually include those categories of property, such as jewelry, fine arts, electronics etc., that have specific dollar limits in the basic homeowner's policy.

Taking advantage of discounts such as the non-smoker discount, the home security discount, the new home discount, and account credits help to lower premiums. Most of our companies also offer convenient payment plans. We'll also discuss with you how things like trampolines, certain breeds of dogs, and underground oil tanks can increase premiums and should be avoided.

We also offer Umbrella Coverage which provides liability coverage over and above the underlying limits available under basic policies.

Our personal lines department includes a wide range of products and services for our clients and offers individual and families the best protection available at competitive prices.
